bulb is removed for an extended period of time, contaminants may enter


the lamp housings and affect performance.


Handle a halogen bulb carefully and keep out of children’s reach.


Grasp the bulb only by its plastic base and do not touch the


glass; the oil from your hand could cause the bulb to break the next


time that the headlamps are operated.





Replacing headlamp bulbs


1. Make sure that the headlamps are turned OFF.

² Sedan/wagon


2. Open the hood and disconnect the headlamp wiring socket from the


in-line connector. This will make it easier to change the bulb.


3. Remove the protective dust shield


from the housing by turning the


dust shield counterclockwise (when


viewed from the rear).


4. Release clip and disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb.


5. Remove the bulb retaining ring by


rotating it counterclockwise.


6. Without turning, remove the old


bulb from the lamp assembly by


pulling it straight back out of the


lamp assembly and replace.


7. Install the new bulb in lamp assembly by pushing straight in with the


bulb’s plastic base facing upward. Turn the bulb slightly to align the


grooves in the plastic base with the tabs in the lamp assembly.


8. Install the bulb retaining ring over the plastic base and lock the ring


by rotating it clockwise until it snaps into place.


9. Connect the electrical connector into the plastic base until it “snaps”.


10. Install the protective dust shield and lock the shield by rotating it


clockwise until it locks into position.


11. Connect the headlamp wiring socket to the in-line connector.


12. Turn the headlamps on and make sure they work properly. If the


headlamp was correctly aligned before you changed the bulb, you should


not need to align it again.

How to change headlight on a 2002 Dodge Durango?

1. Remove the small Torx head screw and detach the park/turn signal light housing. (Screws are located between headlight and signal housing)





2. Remove headlight housing mounting bolts (there are 3 of them, 1 on the side and two on bottom)





3. Disconnect the electrical connector, unscrew the headlight bulb-retaining ring and withdraw the bulb.





4. Installation is the reverse of the romaval procedure, but handle the new bulb only with gloves or a clean rag.





5. If you need to adjust the headlight, there are two spring loaded adjusting screws above the headlight but below the top of the fender. Adjust accordingly.|||You don%26#039;t have to take the whole headlight out, I just changed my 2003%26#039;s yesterday.





You can reach the retaining ring on the back of the headlight, turn and take bulb with wire out, replace bulb, insert bulb and wire back into headlight and screw the retaining ring back on. It is a little awkward to reach the retaining ring, but it can be done, took me 5 minutes to do both.

One of the headlights on my car is out. We bought a new bulb today, but the auto parts store wanted something like $65 to put it in. It looks like it should be simple to put in but I am having problems. We were able to take the cover off, and remove the wires, but we cannot get the bulb out. There seems to be a wire clip holding it in; but I cannot figure out how to remove the clip to take the bulb out to replace it. How would I do it?

The retainer wire is held in place on the bottom by a screw and clip on the bottom and is locked into a plastic clip on top. To remove the wire, push the wire down and towards the passenger side of the car, it will dislodge and you can then lower it to remove the bulb. Once the bulb has been changed, you want to replace the wire the same way to protect the plastic clip

Pop the hood. Look at the headlight from above. there should be two %26quot;torque-head%26quot; or %26quot;star%26quot; screws running don the side of the headlight. You have to remove both of those and take headlight completely out of the car. then twist the plug that holds the bulb. replace the bulb and reverse the process. Getting the long torques-head back in place is a little tricky, you might want to get a friend to help guide the screw into the bottom hole with the tip of a screwdriver.

P.S. My local Firestone dealer was going to charge $25.00 for this replacement. after doing it by myself the last time, he will do it next time. It really was quite a pain.

You don%26#039;t specify left or right headlight. But if its the right (passenger side) You should be able to change it no problem. If its the left side (drivers) you may need to remove the air box, if you cannot squeeze your hand in there to remove the bulb.|||I had the same issue with a Chevy Cavalier...I had to remove the entire headlight assembly to change the bulb...I got it done, but it took a lot of work, and then I had to re-aim the light etc...If it%26#039;s that cold, you might want to go to the shop, LOL...good luck...|||It could be true on that vehicle I don%26#039;t recall but many vehicles like my Intrepid you have to not only remove the top mounting screws for the headlight assembly but the lower bolts that are behind the front bumper , sometimes it%26#039;s best if you%26#039;ve lower fog lamps in the bumper to remove them and gain access to them that way.

The library has every repair manual you can use. Changing a headlight on a 1993 Honda Accord, I am having trouble.?

Is there a trick to getting it off? It is the regular beam on the drivers side. It should just be a clip, and then twist the bulb and pull it out. I was yanking on it for about an hour, and couldn%26#039;t get the clip off, or get it twisted. I had some friends try and they couldn%26#039;t either. Anyone else ever had this problem?|||Go to the nearest Autozone.





They will show you what you are doing wrong.|||You%26#039;ve got the right idea. The problem is the rubber o-ring seal on the bulb gets stuck after being in the same position for years. You might need a set of pliers to get it to turn. Just be careful so you don%26#039;t crack the housing. Looking at the back of the bulb, twist counterclockwise to remove. A little grease on the new bulb%26#039;s o-ring will help to install. Make sure you don%26#039;t get any grease on the bulb itself.

They can look up ur car in their computer.|||darrel is correct...just be careful because that plastic can break and your headlight wont fit back in if it does. You dont have to baby it, just dont jerk it.|||If you only need to replace the buld its really simple.When you open the hood you will see on top of the headlamp assy a pull pin on both sides of the assy.Turn the pins from the lock position and pull them straight up.Once the pins are removed pull the headlamp assy foreward to gain access to the headlamp bulb that needs replaced.When done please make sure the pins are in the locked position.Best of luck with your suburban.

Take it to the dealer!|||The manual will tell you how.|||there%26#039;s a something like a pin u gotta unlock it with your finger but u gotta remember how u did unpin it coz it%26#039;s gonna be harder when u install the new bulb and remember the position of the bulb itself coz this might get a bit hard to adjust again.





It seems a bit complicated i know but how most of the bulbs%26#039; cars can be changed.

Is it necessary to reinstall the metal wire/clip "thingy" when changing headlight bulb in '03 Hyundai Elantra?

Today I changed the passenger-side headlight bulb in my 2003 hyundai elantra. in order to access the socket for the bulb, i had to remove this weirdly-shaped wire that was helping to hold the socket in place. i now don%26#039;t know how to replace the wire thing, because its shape is kind of confusing and i can%26#039;t see into the bulb housing well enough to figure it out. i also can%26#039;t look at the driver%26#039;s side to see how that one is held in, because of this plate that restricts my access to it.


i don%26#039;t have a manual, and can%26#039;t find diagrams online.


could someone describe how to put the wire in? or is it even necessary to do this? the screw-off cover to the lightbulb is in place, will that hold it in securely enough?|||Yes, you have to.


Mines a 2005 and it was a PITA to even get it off but you put it in what looks like sideways. I *believe* the curcey part goes in at the left and the part with prongs goes in at the right. You just have to squeeze the little prong things a little to get them to go into where they go.


Fiddle with it and you%26#039;ll figure it out :-)|||not 100% sure as there are different retainer clips for different cars. some will go from the bottom to top and some will go from one side to the other, i suggest take it to a mechanic or even a auto retail store and have them fit it, im sure they could`nt expect for you to pay anything for fitting it.|||It is necessary to install this %26quot;retaining%26quot; clip for it holds the bulb in place. And it is essential, seeing as how expensive the bulb is. The clip goes in at a wierd angle. Just got to work at it. Sorry.|||Ash,


THats right, its a MAJOR PITA to change these out. Not only does one have minimal space to stick one%26#039;s mitts in there, but that wire retainer takes a gawdawful amount of time to get back in. You%26#039;re not alone! Its a stupid design, but you have to get used to it. Try taking a look at the other side to visualize the position of the goofy little clip. Yes, it must be re-installed to keep the bulb in place.


I have a 2002 Elantra, and have gone down the same path of discovery as you. As time goes on you%26#039;ll get better at it.

I can%26#039;t get the plug off when i try to change my headlights. How are you supposed to squeeze the plug to unlatch the tab?|||just blow up the whole car and buy something american|||I think I got one loose with pliers and had to leave the other fastened. They are so tight it isn%26#039;t funny. I also had to wrestle with the twist fastening on the bulb sockets, using a screwdriver to pry the thing along at first. Silicone spray helped a bit there but the whole procedure was a nightmare.

I just changed my headlight for my 01 Sunfire GT. I%26#039;m just curious as to how secure the fixture sits in the headlight assembly. It seemed to easy to put in (it didn%26#039;t snap back in, just put it in and turn it 1/8th of a turn, the actual light is snapped to the wires). The divers side headlight is out on my 03 Ford Fiesta. My boyfriend seemed to think it would be easy to fix and that he%26#039;d do it (I%26#039;m useless you see.) but he lifted the bonnet and said some choice words along with %26quot;How are you meant to get into it?%26quot;. The bulbs will be held in by a wire clip, the replacement bulb will also have a flat spot on the metal rim this is so the bulb alignment is correct.





Alternatively take it to halfords and they will do it for about 2.99!|||dno bout the fiesta..but in my car you have to remove the bumper then the headlight to get the passenger side bulb in. Manufacturers are ars*hol*es and build cars so that simple things are hard.|||You have to move the stuff that%26#039;s in the way to get to the light|||There is a black plastic panel with a metal clip holding it in place push down the clip and remove plastic panel (do not be afraid to use force) you should then see the back of the bulb with a black connector with wires on it pull that off the bulb there is also a clip holding the bulb in place remove it like u would with a pin (push down, Glide it across a little and let go) take the bulb out and reverse this process. If you get stuck go to a halfords store and they will fit it for you for 拢4.99 (If they have done it before it should take a maximum of 2 mins, if they haven%26#039;t done it before about 10 mins)

In the back of the headlight there is a large plastic ring that must be turned counter-clockwise before the bulb assembly can be removed.





It%26#039;s important not to touch the glass part of the new bulb with your hands. Double-up a layer of Kleenex between our fingers and the bulb. The reason for this precautionary measure is the natural oil on your fingers will cause a hot-spot on the bulb when it illuminates causing it to fail.





Very carefully wipe *silicone ignition grease on the orange colored O ring at the base of the bulb socket. Silicone grease displaces moisture inside the car electrical socket that plugs into the bulb socket. Any auto store has silicone ignition grease.|||type into search box

open you hood





there is a rubber grommet the size of a coaster thats where the bulb is located. unplug the plug (squeeze the side of the plug and it should slide right off)





remove the grommet. just pull if off away from the headlight.





the bulb is secured by a spring clip push the clip towards the front of the car and move it to one side to get it unhooked from the headlight housing.





pull the head light bulb out. replace with new head light bulb (MAKE SURE NOT TO TOUCH THE GLASS OF THE NEW BULB)





secure the bulb with the spring clip.





put rubber grommet back on





plug the harness back on the bulb.





your done

Any help?|||I would imagine the switch knob can be pulled out by pushing a release button on top of the light switch controller. It%26#039;s just behind the dash. You%26#039;ll have to reach up and find it.





Once the handle AND SHAFT pull out, you can then remove the retaining knob from the front of the dash where the handle and shaft came out.





After you unscrew the retaining knob, the light switch unit should come right out. Carefully unplug the wire harness.

Look under the hood at the back of the headlights and you should see a wire going into the back of the headlight.





In most cases, you can twist the plastic base that the wire is attached to and remove the bulb.

|||There actually not that difficult to do, if your concerned dont do it. But if you just take your time reach in there and turn the clip counter clockwise a 1/4 turn it will unlock and slide right out.

Please help!!!|||Those have bolts that hold the headlight assembly 2 are at the top once you open the hood , another 2 bolts are below and you need to pull the fog lights out to gain access to them.Might be a great idea to buy a Haynes service manual they run about 20 bucks at walmarts etc.The reason I mention changing the whole assembly is bec it%26#039;s really easier and a saver bet to not just try and replace the headlight housing but to change the whole headlight assembly all at once bec screws are rusted etc and when you try removing them they brake the plastic and cause major headaches.

I have a 1990 Ford Bronco II and i need a way to change the headlight bulbs to a %26quot;superwhite%26quot; or a %26quot;cool blue%26quot; color, but the problem is that the headlight is an entire assembly, not just a lens, that i can replace the bulb behind it. Changing headlight on Harley Davidson?

It%26#039;s one fo two things, either you wired the high and low beams backwards, or you don%26#039;t have th correct set-up.|||sounds like it%26#039;s miswired , the high beams should be BOTH filiments lit not just one|||When you say dual bulb do you also mean dual housing? It would help if you would give the year and model of the bike. Was this a kit or did you piece the parts to do it together? That way I could look at the wiring diagram and give you a fix for it. More than likely that%26#039;s the way it was designed to be but there is always a way to make both light up.

Help with changing headlight assembly on a 2004 Dodge Intrepid passenger side...?

I have the new assembly however it did not come with any instructions so if anyone out there can help me please feel free to do so. I have to do this on Monday birthday present for the lady friend and it is going to be a surprise for her. Do I have to take the fender off? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I assume that I can use the old hardware to replace the assembly with, am I right? HELP!!!!!!!!!!|||There are two long bolts that face straight up that hold the whole housing in, I think they may have 5/16 (8 mm) heads. You also have to remove the plastic cover along topside. Has little plugs that you can lift the center up first with pliers, then the plug comes out. You DO NOT take fender off.

|||This is exactly why you should NEVER go to a dealership. It is IMPOSSIBLE to remove the headlight in the manner he states without breaking it. You must put a screwdriver down from the top to unclip the side light (use a flashlight to see). The side light pulls forward and the main light pulls up.

|||After you unscrew the bolts holding the assembly the screwdriver goes down a hole in the top of the assembly. Use a flashlight to see. Push in the clip with the screwdriver. The side light pulls forward and the main light pulls up. I just finished doing it and it works great if you know how

|||I own a shop, and have ran into this before. Its just stuck, and can be a pain to get it out. Try spraying some WD-40 around the assembly, and let it sit for a while. Grasp the assembly, and give it a quick yank forwards, and it should come out, but I have seen them break before the would come out. Also; Look closely around the edges of the assembly, and even run something thin around it to make sure something else isn%26#039;t broke and/or fell down obstructing the removal.

Changing headlight bulbs on a 1999 Golf?

This is proving impossible and I wondered if anyone had experience in this and could offer any tips. Both the sidelight and headlight bulbs have gone and I can%26#039;t change them! I don%26#039;t really want to have to pay for a garage to do it either.|||well gemma its not that hard there will be a water proof cover and then a metal spring clip holding them in but if this is a bit out of you league then simply take your vehicle to any halfords shop and the nice guy behind the counter will usually change them for you if they are not to busy and they wont even charge|||You will see a sticking out thing on the back of the headlights with an adjuster wheel on the back of it, there is a metal clip below this, pull that out and the plastic cover behind comes off the, bulbs are behind there.

Is there a trick to changing headlight switch?

I tried to change the headlight switch on my 1996 Cherokee last night. It is so hard to get to, and I couldn%26#039;t even get the entire dash panel off because of the steering column being in the way.





When you change it, do you have to go through the dash, or can you somehow do it from underneath?|||I have a 96 also, the smaller,Cherokee. You do not have to take the dash off just the knee pad? that is under the dash.


It is a pita to change out,it does have to be changed out from underneath.


What i found out on mine was it was not the switch at all but rather the fuse that is down there as well in the same area.





Look up NAXJA.com and do a search as there is a lot of info on this common Cherokee problem.
