Definitely depends on the car. Some you replace just a bulb some the entire headlight. If you have a vintage Z car you might want to consult a mechanic.
Go to the auto parts store and ask them for a headlight for your car. If you only get a bulb that is easier to replace than if you get the whole headlight. My car is a '96 Olds Cutless, and it only needed a bulb. That's all. It was pretty simple to change. Also, see if you can remove the bulb from your headlamp by twisting it.
